We are currently only open for music and other special events.
It has been a wonderful 17 years getting to know all the wonderful people who have stayed here.
The Boston Globe featured our inn in its travel section. Here is a link to the delightful article.
The house has also been featured on Bob Vila’s “Restore America” television program, having visited the site during major renovations.
Although you may feel like you have traveled back in time, our Victorian inn has all the modern conveniences from flat-screened TV, Bose radio and CD players to and wifi and the morning Wall Street Journal. Pamper yourself with a luxurious spa bath, or we can arrange for a massage.
Start the day with a full gourmet breakfast by the fire, made the way you like it. Come stroll through our gardens, relax in our gazebo or on the front porch. Sample the afternoon tea offerings. We love to spoil our guests!
On chilly days, cuddle up in the library or one of our parlors, by a fire, with a book, or play a game of backgammon in our game room. Each of our guest rooms has books for sale according to theme, and we specialize in cookbooks, gardening, poetry, history, and railroads.
Later, dinner at a local restaurant, then relax in your room by the fireplace, or take a nice soak in our deep whirlpool tubs. Exhale!
We are also a used book store! All the books in all the rooms are for sale, so we are the perfect spot for a book lover’s holiday!
GUS, our life-sized gargoyle, sits atop our roof and protects the house from evil spirits, or at least from evil illiteracy spirits!
We hope your stay with us is relaxing and pleasurable. Enjoy the comfort of our various public rooms. Our Great Hall with its impressive three-story atrium is a unique architectural feature. Relax by the fire, or wander into one of the original twin parlors. When the house was built, the parlors were designated for ladies and gentlemen; cigars and brandy in one sherry and women talk in the other.
We have turned the men’s parlor in a library and it is one of the favorite rooms of our family and friends, a place to cuddle up and relax on a chilly Vermont night with a book and a crackling fire.
The ladies’ parlor is a perfect spot to relax in the morning, its subtle light inspires a calm start to he day. Do you play the piano? Across the Hall is our little game room where you can try your hand at the traditional backgammon, chess, cribbage, mancala, or the more contemporary Clue or Monopoly.
In the summer, our rose garden is a popular lingering spot; you may even encounter a few of our friends strolling the brick paths. We have many types of roses, mostly antique, for you to enjoy. Relax on our massive, wrap-around front porch, rockers and white wicker await. Or, spend a leisurely rest in our gazebo which sits under a massive 200-year-old sugar maple tree with a 100-foot wing span!
Our inn is best appreciated by adults and not set up to accommodate children, or extra adults in any guest room.
